The muscle fibers can be shortened in an injury and cause a knot.  This creates compression on the part of the body that is injured and includes not only the muscles but the nerves and joints as well. This causes the nervous system to be hypersensitive in the area that is tight or has muscles that are cramping.

Dry Needling helps to release these trigger points within the knotted muscle and/or the area surrounding the joint.  Traditional acupuncture needles are used. These needles are so small they are rarely felt when being inserted into the damaged area.  Often a patient will feel the muscle knot being released as the needle moves around and the area of tension is breaking up. The results help the injury to heal quicker because the needle desensitizes the nerve ending.  

Soft tissue and joint mobilization along with dry needling and home exercises help patients to return to the pre-injury state.  After a treatment, there can be some soreness and bruising but the results are phenomenal due to the quicker healing process.
